Video Release Posters
Video release posters (sometimes referred to as "video
one-sheets") are the posters seen in video rental stores.
Studios issue posters in conjunction with the video release of
a film and in many cases use the same artwork as that of the
theatrical release poster. Video release posters can feature
artwork different from the movie poster, are seldom printed on
both sides, and in some cases printed on paper that is less substantial
than the paper on which the movie poster is printed. The weight
of the paper on which movie posters are printed can vary, though,
so this is not necessarily the best way to determine whether
or not a poster is a video release or movie poster. The best
way to determine the difference is to look for a tag line that
advertises a film's release on video and in some cases other
advertisements for products that tie in with the film. Those
who collect original movie posters generally do not
consider video release posters to be true "collectibles."
